What opportunities can come from the Royal Air Force Air Cadets?

career in the medical wing of the armed forces is unique. Life here offers the candidate the opportunity to train extensively and also play a vital role in his unit and country, even in the war zone. A selected cadet can be placed in an RAF, army or naval base. He or she can be part of the armed forces unit in NHS hospitals.

The armed forces offer a structured professional career. Responsibilities and experience are similar to duties or civil service. However, what makes this race different is the place and conditions in which a military medical officer must serve and be expected to deliver.

Selection or Recruitment

An aspiring candidate can join the armed forces while studying in medical school. Interested candidates can apply for the Medical Cadetship. For example, to join the Royal Army Medical Corps you should contact the RAMC Officer. Most doctors join the various Forces through this process of cadets. Each of the forces sponsors the study in exchange for six years of service, after the training of the foundation. Some doctors join at a later date in their training or after they are fully qualified. There is a shortage of trained doctors, such as GP, in some hospital specialties.

The British Army grants up to 30 medical cadets each year. They are even sponsored by a part of their medical degree. In fact, there are provisions for financial aid to support the study of a medical degree. In the end, more studies can be done, until the 46th birthday of the candidate, with the condition that he pass the selection tests, and joins.

The Royal Air Force grants up to 25 medical cadets in a year. Cadet doctors after their basic program take the re-entry course and the specialist participant for 13 weeks. Additional military medical training is divided between the Defense Medical Services Training Center, Keogh Barracks, Hampshire, the RAF College, Cranwell and the RAF Aviation Medicine Center, RAF Henlow, Bedfordshire.

The Royal Navy offers in one year, up to 15 medical cadets. After the foundation, the doctors are placed in a MOD hospital unit. Later they undergo officer training at Dartmouth, plus a new entry medical officer course at the Institute of Naval Medicine. Five direct-entry doctors are also taken annually.

Veterinarians can join the Royal Army Veterinary Corps (RAVC), which offers challenging and varied employment. This service is involved in the use and care of military service animals, from acquisition to retirement, in training practices and preventive medicine.

Commissioning and experience

Medical officers begin their first commission after registration and a short-term publication at a medical center to gain experience in the forces.

In the RAF, a doctor will join as Flight Lieutenant or Squad Leader in a short commission of 3 to 4 years and then can opt for an average commission of 18 years. After the first appointment, they undergo specialized training in a specialty hospital or occupational medicine, or in public health or begin vocational training in general practice in a hospital of MDHU or NHS. All the postgraduate courses follow the Royal Civil schools or as civilian medical training in typical specialties such as anesthetics, psychiatry, general surgery, otorhinolaryngology or orthopedics.

Once army doctors complete their specialized training, general practitioners serve as regimental medical officers who serve soldiers and their families in military posts in the United Kingdom, Germany, Cyprus, Brunei, etc. Doctors could be needed in anything from recovering from an accident in training to transporting casualties in the operational environment.

In the Royal Navy, junior doctors assume the general duties assigned to a ship, a submarine or the Royal Marines, for two and a half years or three. He or she will receive the support of senior medical officers on the ground and are well trained and prepared. Physicians assigned to a Royal Marine unit have the opportunity to undergo the command course of all weapons.

Life in uniform

Doctors have ample opportunities in the armed forces to carry out sporting or adventurous activities, such as mountaineering or shooting. One has to be an officer and a doctor, a person with professional qualifications and academic qualifications but also has strong leadership skills. You will be asked to go always or when necessary, perhaps in the middle of a war zone.
